So, this was a spark that came to me recently, this smock blouse thing. When I was a little girl, I LOVED wearing smocks. When I was in art class I felt indomitable — sticky tape, construction paper, Elmer’s glue and my smock. I don’t know what I loved more, art or reading. To this day I’ve not been able to decide.

Lately I’ve been missing those innocent days when I could create things from my imagination and feel so accomplished by virtue of that alone. It all felt so magical. Then you grow up, get a job, and do away with ‘childish things’. I wonder why that is? That imagination is seen as childish, when in my mind it is in the imagination that everything important and wonderful and life-giving resides. I made this smock as a refusal to let go of that creative little girl, armed with yarn and glitter and imagination, all the necessities to make it in this world. This one is for the little girl in you (and man, oh, man, it is soooo SO hard not to keep this one for myself!) Can fit a medium gal, but I’m a small and I wear this size because I like things swingy and blousy, so… 18.5” measured from underarm seam to seam. 23” long. Organic linen, rust dyed in my atelier. Finished in linen bias. Raw hem. Hand stitched finish at the pockets. Overlocked seams. Handmade by me.
