Boro Box Blouse No.2
Boro Box Blouse No.2
These breezy little blouses are becoming a favorite of mine to make. I get to choose some slips of beautiful vintage Japanese Indigo dyed fabric with bold boro swatches. Because of the parameters of it, the swatches really stand out. This one began with several different swathes of vintage, Japanese plaincloth, and one strip of shima that I pieced together by hand, then pulled together to make a whole. There was a big, wonderful tear that I was able to to repair, along with a hole that needed mending. Between the new repairs and the already present boro, the whole thing just harmonizes. I can envision a girl in rural Japan wearing this, having just made her repairs. Perhaps she’s gathering persimmons today, or enjoying a walk in the glory of a warm, sunny day. Every girl should have a blouse such as this, blue as the sky, lovingly etched with history and proud in its economy.
She is a roomy thing. Made for small to medium gal. As is custom in my studio, I left the hem raw. The collar has been finished in fine linen. Sashiko stitching, with boro old and new throughout. Fine-finished seams. 20”x20”.
