Geisha Dress
Geisha Dress
This is a fun little dress. A breezy thing perfect for summer. I found this Geisha fabric an embarrassing number of years ago. I’m usually anti-novelty fabric, but this little snip of Japanese loveliness called my name. It’s just so incredible. It’s a print done up on really nice cotton. I have 6 of these panels, all of which will make their way to my shop in one of these kimono dresses (well, one is reserved for me). The front of the dress is a simple, light, summery cotton that marries well with both the Geisha and the back panel and sleeves which are made of vintage Japanese indigo dyed cotton. There is sashiko stitching along the sleeves, the undersides of which are seamed by hand. Boro pieces are affixed to tiny age-drawn holes and delicate patches, making this piece extra precious. Holes in fabric are a glorious thing because they give me the opportunity to administer boro, my true love. The hem is left raw, the front and back seam allowances have been stitched sashiko style, and there are some fun stitched bits throughout. Hand stitching throughout. One of a kind. Raw hem. Fine-finished seams. 34 1/2” long x 20 1/4” wide, 12 1/2” sleeve length. Due to its relaxed fit, will happily fit a S-M gal.
