obelisk
obelisk
I wanted to create a signature line of necklaces, pieces that I can explore on my metalsmithing path. This obelisk is among the first of that effort.
The obelisk, in history, was a reverential monument designed to pay homage to the Sun God Ra, and symbolized rebirth. The pyramidion structure at the top represented the rays of the sun, and as obelisks were placed at the entrance of Egyptian tombs, they served as funerary monuments, the rays of sun reviving the dead.
I make no claim that this little beauty will revive the dead, but it does possess a rather majestic quality.
All handmade, of course, and all sterling silver from the chain to the Obelisk itself, I chose not to upset her lines with a hallmark or signature. She can be twisted and twirled on her sterling bail to be admired from all angles.
