Industrial Couture
Ok, wait, could you imagine this paired with a couture gown??
Fabulous.
An industrial steel box suspended by a handmade chain with its formdible bail, both in sterling silver. It’s little perforated dish like a seive ornaments its shoulder. This is one of the first pieces I made when I set off on this part of my jewelry journey. I wanted to spotlight the elegance of decay and say out loud, maybe boldly, that fine jewelry has changed its tune. Gone are the days when gold and diamonds were the vanguards of this realm. Contemporary jewelery is the way forward. It acknowledges the artists innovation and choice of alternative materials to forge a narrative rather than continuing to herald ‘traditional’ metals like gold and unattainable stones. When gold and diamonds push artists out of a field, we don’t give up, we become alchemists. Today, the synergy of the artist’s vision and more humble materials like steel are the new fine.
Special care instructions:
This lovely is made of steel and enamel. Please understand that enamel is glass, and just as a wine glass would shatter if you hurled it to the floor, likely will this piece if you treat her badly. So don’t treat her badly. While not nearly as fragile as a wine glass, it warrants understanding the elements of her composition. Please don’t wear in the shower, the hot tub, the swimming pool nor in a thunderstorm—I mean, if she rusts a little more, that wouldn’t be such a bad thing, though her components are sealed to protect against the elements—anyway, love her madly, and she will offer a lifetime of willing service to you..
