Hollow
Hollow
Y’all, I LOVE hollow forms. I have tried to make ‘flat’ jewels… so, so hard for me. The thing about hollow forms in jewelry is that the artist is half architect, half construction worker. Each element must be soldered in place individually. There are no templates. No pre-made frames. Something about absolute fabrication, as complex as it is, is like an opiate for me. All that work to make, well, space.
This little beauty is another in the series of hollow forms. The thing about a hollow form is that we are inclined to stuff something into that little space, and here I could not help but fill it with a little poof of blood-red Merino wool, a twain of crazy wires holding it all in place. The amount of glee I get from making a little 7/8” cube has to be illegal. It should be anyway.
Sterling silver. 7/8” square and just shy of 1/2” deep. Hallmarked.
I currently have one of these rings in a size 7.25. (There is another one similar called ‘The Ring That Launched Them All’ whose square is a little smaller at 3/4” square, that is a size 8.25).
Be in the know!
This piece has been patinated and given a final seal with wax. To maintain the integrity of your new friend, please refrain from washing your hands while wearing, and avoid any situations where vigorous scrubbing or rubbing is involved. While it’s not exactly delicate, all patinated jewelry is vulnerable to abrasion and must be treated with care (this goes for all of the jewelry you buy in general).
As we all know, sterling silver jewelry tarnishes. The best way to combat tarnish aside from wearing it—YES, actually wearing your silver prevents it from oxidizing— is to store your jewels in a zip-lock bag with the air squeezed out, and if you can add a little anti-tarnish slip with it, all the better. Incidentally, your lovely has been shipped in a zip-lock along with a little anti-tarnish snip.
Store your new lovely in the zip-lock bag along with the anti-tarnish snip, inside of the muslin provided with your order and she should remain pristine. Also, please store all of your jewelry alone to avoid your pieces rubbing against and scratching each other.
THANK YOU for buying handmade. May you always stand out in a crowd like the amazing being that you are! xo
