Bling Ring No. 1
Bling Ring No. 1
This is the first in a sweet little collection of ‘bling rings’. Sterling silver in a formidable gauge, the interior sparkles with 24K gold, which is applied as leaf using a Korean technique called Keum-boo. This technique is not a surface application, rather, the two atoms of the two metals actually exchange to create a permanent bond called ‘fusion bonding’. It’s one of my favorite techniques in jewelry where the result can be further manipulated with patination. In this ring I left the gold to shine through, with areas of patination giving it a worn feel. The hue reminds me so much of a Klimt painting.
Sterling silver and 24K gold leaf. There are four others in this collection, with more or less brilliant gold showing through in their little negative spaces. This one here is a size a size 8.
Be in the know!
This piece has been patinated and given a final seal with wax. To maintain the integrity of your new friend, please refrain from washing your hands while wearing, and avoid any situations where vigorous scrubbing or rubbing is involved. While it’s not exactly delicate, all patinated jewelry is vulnerable to abrasion and must be treated with care (this goes for all of the jewelry you buy in general).
As we all know, sterling silver jewelry tarnishes. The best way to combat tarnish aside from wearing it—YES, actually wearing your silver prevents it from oxidizing— is to store your jewels in a zip-lock bag with the air squeezed out, and if you can add a little anti-tarnish slip with it, all the better. Incidentally, your lovely has been shipped in a zip-lock along with a little anti-tarnish snip.
Store your new lovely in the zip-lock bag along with the anti-tarnish snip, inside of the muslin provided with your order and she should remain pristine. Also, please store all of your jewelry alone to avoid your pieces rubbing against and scratching each other.
THANK YOU for buying handmade. May you always stand out in a crowd like the amazing being that you are! xo
