Boro Fusion Dress
Boro Fusion Dress
This dress effloresced last night before bed. I scratched up a midnight sketch, laid out an inventory of fabrics and chose my favorite pattern to accommodate it all. When I awoke, the neat little bundle promised a good day ahead. It is midnight again. The dress is done, a fusion of very old boro and beautiful new linen with a hand that feels like alpine water when you hold it.
I am in love.
The majority of this frock is made of 100% organic linen in the most beautiful oyster mushroom grey. I’ve incorporated several slips of vintage, Japanese fabric down center front and at the bottom left quadrant, much of which retains its original boro work, and some of my own. The vintage textile is all hand-dyed, handwoven and organic. As is customary, the hem is left raw, the neckline and arms are bound in beautiful linen, a theme that has become a valued juxtaposition for me: one can remain raw and earth-bound, elegant and polished all the same. French darts. Back gore. Fine finished seams. Hand stitched detail throughout. 37” bust x 37.25” length.
Thank you for choosing handmade. You are reviving the lost art of creating art. xo.
